Find your Natural Breath | 20 mins.

January 17, 2021 By Laurent Roure

During my classes, I always speak about finding and connecting with your ‘natural breath’ in postures, during Pranayama and in meditation.

What does it mean?

It is the fundamental way to connect with your respiratory system and your involuntary breathing pattern. It is the breath which is initiated without your control, an action not purposely imposed on the body. It is the breath which you are unconsciously doing throughout your life!

It is being able to connect with an ever-changing natural breathing rhythm whatever its speed, intensity, depth or challenges and difficulties it presents. It is observing with gentle awareness and without any physical effort to control your personal and intimate respiration.

This ‘simple’ technique demands very low effort and this is why it can be practised virtually anywhere and in any situation.

Here is a little tutorial video for you to enjoy and start the practice of Natural Breathing.

Pursed lips breathing – calm | 12 mins.

March 23, 2020 By Laurent Roure

Pursed-lips breathing is part of a group of controlled breathing techniques. If they are regularly practised and integrated into day-to-day activities, they will help us to deal with anxiety and breathlessness.

Being aware of five rules will enable us to understand and master effective breath control so that you can acquire a sense of normal breathing without respiratory distress:

  1. The breath must be slow, smooth and gentle
  2. The inhalation happens through the nose.
  3. The exhalation happens through the pursed lips.
  4. The exhalation is longer than the inhalation.
  5. The pace of the exercise is slow to promote respiratory control and comfort.

Besides being an active breath for stress relief and supporting breathlessness, Pursed lips breathing helps to strengthen the lungs and make them more efficient. It also conditions the diaphragm and the abdominal muscle area and makes them work better to get more oxygen in the body.

Three-part breathing – connection | 10 mins.

March 18, 2020 By Laurent Roure

Connect and relax with your breath.

Three-part breathing is an effortless breathing and meditative technique to sensitise the mind about where the breath is present in the different parts of the body.

Three-part breath is a calming breath awareness meditation. When we practice it long enough and mindfully, it helps to slow down and regulate the breathing and heart rate. It establishes a relaxed, breathing rhythm and makes us feel grounded and calm.

Yogic Breath – full easy breath | 9 mins.

March 18, 2020 By Laurent Roure

The full yogic breathing is a traditional and fundamental practice of pranayama. It is a conscious, guided technique which expands upon the actions of the natural breath by actively breathing into the three distinct areas of the torse discovered in the 3-part breathing.

The benefits are multiple and include, brings control to the breath, increases oxygen in the system and can help the correction of poor breathing habits/pattern.

Most importantly, this simple technique helps to calm our nervous system; therefore, to deal with stress and anxiety and makes us feel grounded.

The perfect technique to use for insomnia and sleep disorder.
