Find your Natural Breath | 20 mins.

January 17, 2021 By Laurent Roure

During my classes, I always speak about finding and connecting with your ‘natural breath’ in postures, during Pranayama and in meditation.

What does it mean?

It is the fundamental way to connect with your respiratory system and your involuntary breathing pattern. It is the breath which is initiated without your control, an action not purposely imposed on the body. It is the breath which you are unconsciously doing throughout your life!

It is being able to connect with an ever-changing natural breathing rhythm whatever its speed, intensity, depth or challenges and difficulties it presents. It is observing with gentle awareness and without any physical effort to control your personal and intimate respiration.

This ‘simple’ technique demands very low effort and this is why it can be practised virtually anywhere and in any situation.

Here is a little tutorial video for you to enjoy and start the practice of Natural Breathing.

Autogenic Relaxation | 28 mins.

December 13, 2020 By Laurent Roure

Autogenic training (AT) is a deep relaxation technique created by German psychiatrist Johannes Schultz in 1932. Schultz was a pioneer in this field. He led clinical trials and research on how the mind can be used to induce relaxation.

During a standard AT session, the listener self-suggests series of relaxing sensations, feelings, and observations throughout the entire body. This process induces a profound state of physical relaxation, resulting in a calm and steady mind.

There are multiple proven benefits of AT. Here are some of them:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Reduces stress-related symptoms – insomnia, fatigue, chronic pain etc.
  • Helps people overcome addictions and nervous habits.
  • Reduces blood pressure and regulates heart rate.
  • Mitigate muscle tension and migraines.
  • Facilitates recovery from surgery or serious illnesses.
  • Helps practitioners reconnect to their body.

To enjoy this practice, we need to find a quiet and warm place to lie down or to sit. We must make sure that nothing will disturb us, remove accessories and wear loose comfortable clothes.

Yoga Nidra with moving breath awareness | 37 mins

October 3, 2020 By Laurent Roure

This thirty-seven-minute-long “Yoga Nidra with moving breath awareness” session will take you slowly through the different stages of Yoga Nidra in the traditional Yogic way but also using some more contemporary techniques.

During Yoga Nidra or ‘’the conscious sleep’’, the teacher’s voice brings the practitioner through different steps of consciousness using different systematic techniques and exercises.

The blend is designed to calm body, breath and mind but also will connect you with your conscious energy which animates your being through moving breath awareness and visualisations.

A truly restoring and invigorating session which will make you feel alive!

Hatha yoga – all levels – 1-hour class

August 27, 2020 By Laurent Roure

Hatha yoga is the branch of yoga that is the most practised in the West. The practise involves breath, body, and mind, and classes include breathing, yoga poses, and meditation.

Hatha yoga is considered as a gentle practice. Although, sometimes, the pace can be more dynamic or more challenging. The beauty of this practice is that you can adapt the intensity upon your ability on the day of the class.

The yoga Hatha teacher will offer you the space to observe and pay attention to your body, breath, and mind so that you can adapt your practice around your findings.

During a Hatha class, you will start by warming up and opening up the body with asanas (poses) and sun salutations, followed by some breathwork to energise and calm the nervous system (pranayama) and you finish with seated or lying down meditation to connect with your true self.

Hatha classes provide an opportunity to stretch, unwind, and release tension, providing an excellent counterpoint to both busy lifestyles and cardio workouts. But also, it helps to support your health and wellbeing.

The benefits of Hatha yoga:

  • Relieves stress and anxiety.
  • Yoga has a positive impact on emotional and mental health.
  • Support when suffering from depression and PTSD.
  • Develop flexibility and mobility.
  • Support rehabilitation after injury, operation or accident.
  • Support body functions: cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic, endocrine, nervous systems.
  • Support mentally and physically the healing during illnesses: cancer, MS, etc.
  • Improve lower back pain, neck pain and any joints related conditions.
  • Helps during menopause and osteoarthritis.
  • Improve sleep and fight insomnia.
  • Improve and support a mindful and healthy living standard (eating, sleeping, activities etc.)

Mindful yoga – all levels – 1-hour class

August 26, 2020 By Laurent Roure

Mindful yoga offers the opportunity to bring our mind inwards using the more subtle tools of yoga like Pranayama (breathing exercises), somatic and gentle body movements, meditation, and deep relaxation.

This gentle and thoughtful practice aims to bring us in the present moment, to be aware, to accept and to gently act on our body and our mental resistances and tensions. You will be using gentle awareness to move into your own practice effectively, kindly, and safely.

The themes of a Mindful class vary from focusing on working with the spine, breath, and gravity or grounding, building resilience on using mindful and careful executed poses and movements.
The bodywork is complemented by specific breathwork and pranayama techniques to deal with the immune and the nervous system. Meditation and deep relaxation such as yoga Nidra are used to calm and restore our all being.

Mindful yoga is the perfect practice for the recovering from operation and health conditions, those suffering from stress and anxiety, pregnant women, senior practitioners or to anyone who needs to refuel and find calm in their daily life.
